Live from KDHX in St. Louis
Back on March 17th, Surrounded by Reality, Madison’s creative and improvised music home, had the Weather Duo and Jaap Blonk play a show together. It was awesome. The show was recorded and we decided to release our duo set as well as our trio set with Jaap as an album. Mine All Mine records was happy to help us put it out.
For us, this album goes back to our roots of totally improvised music. We had been getting into composition territory with our album From Field to Platter, but we have returned to improvising music while plugged into chains of effects and distortion. We had the great honor to improvise with Jaap Blonk for our second set. He agreed to do a set with us that night, we had never met him before and it was a magical experience.
Two of the groups that I play with, Lovely Socialite and Anna Vogelzang, had the opportunity recently to stop by the Murfie office to play a couple of “Murfie Recordings.” They are sort of like Tiny Desk Concerts, but here in Madison.

Concert announcements coming soon!
I am about to embark on a tour with Anna Vogelzang for a few days. She is going to be going all the way to the east coast, but I will only be doing the first leg. This means that there are shows to announce. We will be playing locally this Saturday and next Saturday.
This sat. will be at the High Noon Saloon as an opening act for Ari Herstand. Music will be at 9pm.

Hello all. As of last night Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps album Registers Her Delight is up for digital or physical purchase on Mine All Mine Records. We have a few preview tracks so you can determine if you actually like what we do.
Also, tonight the Watercourse Quartet will be joined by db pedersen at Dobra Tea on State St. at 6pm. See you there!
On March 17th the Weather Duo had the opportunity to open up a Surrounded by Reality Event featuring Jaap Blonk, a Dutch spoken word artist who focuses on sound poetry and electronic music. It held at the Audio for the Arts studio in Madison and was a fantastic event. The Weather Duo played a 25 min set of improvised acoustic and electroacoustic music with many twists and turns followed by Jaap, who performed for nearly an hour. A highlight of Jaap’s set was his performance of Kurt Schwitters’ Ursonate. The Weather Duo and Jaap then combined forces for a short but sweet 12 min set. We are going to release both the Weather Duo set and the Weather Duo w/ Jaap Blonk set as an album in the very near future. Here are a couple of excerpts from that performance.

Many Thanks to Steve at AFA for recording this!
It has been a busy week! Lots of press and a big Lovely Socialite show to cap it off. The local paper the Isthmus did a great piece on the band that you can read here http://www.thedailypage.com/isthmus/article.php?article=36332.
It was our CD release show, which is great because now our CD’s are available. They will be up, along with our single at www.mamrecords.com. Here is a pic from the show.
Also this week, the Isthmus mentioned my score for the film Just Breathe .
This is Benjamin Britten’s contribution to set of pieces requested my Mstislav Rostropovich in honor of Paul Sacher. Composed January 5th, 1976.
